Shout doesn't stop for Christmas, because neither do anxiety, depression or loneliness. Last Christmas, we helped more than 14,000 texters - many suicidal. Things have only got tougher in the UK and this year we expect 20,000 people to need our support. With your help, we can be here for them, 24/7.

    Situation

In the UK, millions are struggling with their mental health. Rates of depression and anxiety have increased by 70% in the last 25 years, alongside a concerning increase in suicide - rates among young people rose by 32% between 2012-2019. The crisis has been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, Centre for Mental Health forecast that 1.5 million children and young people will need mental health support as a result, many for the first time.

    Solution

As a free, confidential and 24/7 text service, Shout fills a dangerous gap in accessible mental health support. We’re a lifeline at Christmas, when few other services open and operate as normal. Anyone in the UK can text us, at any time. Everyday, we support thousands of children, young people and adults with loneliness, depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicide. This Christmas, we’re expecting at least 20,000 people to need our help.
