We believe every child has a right to equal opportunities and a bright future, no matter their background. That is why we intervene early, before children reach crisis, and match them to a mentor for a year of weekly, one-to-one sessions tailored for their social, emotional and learning development.

    Situation

London is increasing socially and economically divided. Despite being one of the wealthiest cities in the world, child poverty rates, isolation, incidences of knife crime, mental health referrals rates and are at an all-time high. Before they reach crisis, we reach and support some of the most at-risk 8-11-year-olds living in poverty and facing many additional complex challenges like being a young carer, experiencing domestic violence, bereavement or having Special Educational Needs.

    Solution

London’s gentrification means that we have young, compassionate professionals living side by side with children who have limited access to positive experiences, one-to-one time with an adult and role models. We bring an innovative approach to the volunteering sector, mobilising London's professionals as volunteer mentors. They meet their mentee each week for a year, before or during the pivotal transition to secondary school, to have fun and develop skills for them to thrive independently.
