Musical talent is everywhere but opportunity isn’t. With your help, we can change this. We’re raising money to give 140 talented young musicians from low income families the chance to reach their potential through our Awards programme by giving them financial support and inspirational opportunities.

    Situation

Excelling at a musical instrument doesn’t just start and end with tuition. Families also need to cover other costs such as instrument hire, examination and audition fees and travel costs. These costs create huge barriers for families already struggling in a challenging economic climate. The Covid-19 pandemic has increased these obstacles. In short, young musicians who have exceptional talent aren't able to continue with their passion and reach their potential if their family can't afford it.

    Solution

Our Awards programme supports talented young musicians from low income families. As well as financial help, they also access inspirational musical experiences such as performance opportunities, career advice, mentoring and musical workshops. The programme is means-tested and funding is kept as flexible as possible so they can use it for a wide range of music costs. In 2020, the average household income of Award winners was just £16,700 clearly evidencing families’ need for our help.
