Thanks to past appeals, we have almost reached our fundraising target to fully restore our beloved production of The Nutcracker. Donations this year will help us refurbish the iconic Snowflake Scene and elements of the ballet’s second act to complete this vital restoration.

Situation
Sir Peter Wright created The Nutcracker for Birmingham Royal Ballet over 30 years ago and it has since been enjoyed by almost a million people - often by families watching a ballet for the first time. Its beautiful sets, costumes and props have been used in over 1,000 performances and so restoration is essential. The Nutcracker is also the Company’s biggest ticket seller, therefore completing this restoration and reviving the show for another 30 years will be crucial to our continued success.
Solution
Supporters of Birmingham Royal Ballet have donated annually to help restore the costumes and sets in most urgent need of repair. Thanks to a significant grant, received in 2021, we have modernised crucial technical elements. We now aim to raise the final £100,000 to restore the beloved Snowflake Scene and Act II. This would enable us to complete the restoration ahead of performances in 2022, ensuring The Nutcracker continues to be one of the world’s leading ballet productions for years to come.
