SheadWay is a place for the male members we support to learn and develop practical skills, form new friendships, and become more independent whilst recovering from their brain injury. Our purpose-built woodwork workshop allows members to gain a renewed sense of purpose whilst completing a project.

    Situation

Men make up 68% of the brain injury survivors we currently support, and many have lost access to rehabilitation services as a result of lockdown measures. Men typically find it more difficult to build social connections than women. SheadWay aims to change this. The first two years following a brain injury are very important in terms of a patient’s long-term prognosis. Our dedicated workshop enables us to support our members creatively in a environment they feel comfortable.

    Solution

SheadWay offers the opportunity for survivors to access a wide range of practical and emotional support. Together they develop new skills whilst reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation, but most importantly, SheadWay is fun! From birdhouses to horse feeders, intricate model building to tending the garden, together members gain a renewed sense of purpose. This dedicated community helps builds peer relationships with other survivors who are going through exactly the same challenges.
