Isolation is sadly the norm for many older people and not just a result of the pandemic. Our local charity has always supported older members of our local communities who have little or no family support, but now the number requiring our help has risen immensely and our resources are stretched.

    Situation

It’s a sad realisation that too many older people in our local communities experience loneliness and it’s harmful effects. For many housebound older people our Age Connects services offer a lifeline and keep them connected. People can become socially isolated for a variety of reasons, such as no family or none living nearby, the deaths of loved ones, or through disability or illness. There so many more older people who would benefit hugely from the support our charity services can provide.

    Solution

The Age Connects Community Support Project aims to tackle social isolation and loneliness in old age. The need for such support is even greater now as so many are vulnerable and cut off. The service provides befriending and practical help for people who do not have anyone to help and many of whom would consider themselves to be housebound. Our team of volunteers provide a lifeline by collecting shopping, prescriptions as well as taking the time to chat and provide much needed social contact.
