    Situation

Education is the key to social mobility but educational inequality can't be solved in the classroom alone. Before COVID-19, 1 in 10 children were persistently absent from school. Now, after a year of disruption to learning, the learning gap has increased by 46% with the poorest pupils hardest hit. Many parents face stress precarious employment, debt, and reduced income. Personalised support for children and young people is vital to help vulnerable children achieve their educational potential.

    Solution

SHS aims to help vulnerable children with our SHS Practitioner service, providing practical support to help families break intergenerational cycles of poverty and tackle barriers to a childs learning. We deliver Practitioner services in 33 schools in London where the need for educational support is urgent. We co-produce a personalised plan with families to increase their resilience and independence. Also SHS Practitioners have often been the only point of contact for many families this past year
