This Christmas the children we support are still recovering from the crisis of COVID-19. They are experiencing extreme mental health issues as a result of the 6-month lockdown as well as facing other socio-economic barriers that have worsened due to the pandemic in the middle of the year.

    Situation

1 in 4 children who live with domestic abuse will develop behavioural issues. On top of that, young people are experiencing a mental health crisis like we have never seen due to the effects of COVID19. Young Minds reported that 83% of young people say the pandemic has made their mental health worse, and ¼ of YP who were accessing support are no longer receiving it. The CYP we support are reporting that they are struggling at home worrying about their families, and financial situation.

    Solution

We will expand our mental health support services for children and young people through increasing our therapy services, as well as the work by Family Support workers in refuge. This funding will support the Children’s Therapeutic Services at Solace in all our services where we support children. There is a huge demand for our children's therapeutic services, as well as the need for more diverse and accessible mental health services for children who have experienced abuse and sexual violence.
