Situation
In the UK, BME women experience higher rates of domestic homicide and are 3 times more likely to die by suicide. Seeking support is already difficult for domestic violence victims, and BME women consistently fall through the cracks of service provision. Many women’s rights organisations often find fundraising difficult: cuts in government funding mean that they often have to compete for the same, limited resources when they really need solidarity and a strong, collaborative network.
Solution
Rise Together follows a feminist, human rights-based approach that facilitates collaboration to raise more funds and awareness for the sector. Apna Haq, Ashiana Network, IMECE Women’s Centre, LAWA, and LAWRS support thousands of women in their respective communities, fulfilling needs that non-BME focused organisations simply can’t meet. These include welfare information & legal advice; multilingual therapeutic support services; temporary accommodation; education; and research & advocacy.
