  • “This stove is good because it saves fuel. Before I received it I used to go to Zomba mountain to fetch firewood 4 times each month, there was no time for me to be home and chat with my family neither to see my relatives on Saturdays. But now, going to the mountain every week is history!"

  • "Why should I go back to the old Mafuwa way of cooking when I have been given this precious cooking stove? - The smoke produced by Mafuwa way used to make me cough a lot besides causing pain in my eyes. That is a thing of the past."

    — Doreen Namakhwa Songolo Village

  • "On behalf of Mbengule village beneficiaries, I would like to thank you for bringing this stove to my village. This is a great development."

    — Grace Katete, Village Head woman, Mbengule village

Situation

Traditional cooking methods on open fires consume large quantities of wood, produce much smoke hazardous to health, are inefficient and time consuming and a great burden on women and girls. It is estimated that 90% of Malawian households cook this way and deforestation rates are now unsustainable.

Solution

The stoves that we build use 65% less firewood than traditional open fires. They are smokeless and much more efficient enabling women to cook faster. We have our own team of stove builders and have built these stoves in over 20 villages. The impact is transforming for the lives of women and girls.
