The Mix

Support and counselling sessions for young people

We aim to offer more young people emotional support and life-changing counselling when they need it the most. Our short-term counselling sessions and mental health support services give young people the tools to deal with everyday life and learn new and positive ways to cope with difficulties.

Christmas is a joyful time, but for many young people it is the most challenging time of year. They are more likely to call The Mix helpline, but the issues they present around relationships, housing and eating disorders are often more serious. Last year, young people struggling with mental health accounted for 60% of our contacts. We called two ambulances a day for those at risk of loss of life. If we can intervene early, we can stop everyday life challenge becoming a life-threatening crisis.

The Mix is a charity designed for young people by young people. We offer just-in-time support through the channels they turn to first - social media, online and the phone. We are the first point of contact for many young people who have nowhere else to turn. While our digital services are available 24 hours a day, our helpline can answer just 50% of the calls we receive. By investing in more staff and volunteers during the Christmas period, we can ensure no young person goes unheard.
