To support clients and reduce re-offending rates among the men and women we work with, we have introduced resettlement support to connect offenders with positive communities upon release. This funding would strengthen our resettlement work.

Situation
We help tackle the cycle of re-offending in the north east of England and Scotland. Both areas are in desperate need of intervention. The north east has the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the UK at 5.9% and Scotland has one of the highest imprisonment rates in western Europe. We know that the first 48 hours after release can be crucial in preventing reoffending. The overall reoffending rate in the UK was last recorded as 29.8%
Solution
We’ve run successful resettlement pilots in HMP Low Newton with women and HMP Northumberland with men, which has reduced reoffending rates with those individuals. We will expand this resettlement programme into prisons across the north east and assign each individual with a worker to help navigate those difficult first days. We will provide mentorship and pastoral support for individuals. We provide tailored help addressing specific barriers / needs e.g. addiction, accomomodation support etc
