Winter can be an isolating time for older neighbours. That's why our annual Winter Wellbeing project is so important - a proactive Outreach effort where we will knock on hundreds of doors, distribute warm items and host community events to keep our neighbours warm and connected this winter.

“Winter Wellbeing is needed. I don’t trust officials, but I do trust North London Cares”.
“You're the first person that's ever got back to me and done what they said they were going to do. Thank you so much."
"I met the Winter Wellbeing team last year and have been invited to clubs for months but this is the first time I’ve built the courage to come. I’ve been missing out, I should have come sooner!”
Winter can be isolating – especially for the 1 million older people who say they often or always feel lonely. That's because leaving the home becomes doubly challenging, increasing the risk of social isolation. What's more, high fuel costs and poor insulation can cause financial strain, and there's added pressure on the NHS and local services as harsh conditions increase morality for an already at risk group. At a time when we should be looking out for one another, the tendency is to retreat.
Our Winter Wellbeing project mobilises people and places across our community to support the most isolated older neighbours across our patch to stay warm, active, healthy and connected during the toughest time of the year. We will strike up conversations with older people we meet (through door-knocking and hosting community events), distribute warm items, refer older neighbours to other local services (benefits, housing) and encourage them to attend our activities for to make a new friend.
