Breast cancer stripped me bare and while I will be forever grateful to the people who saved my life, it was Breast Cancer Haven that put me back together again.
My head was a bit of a mess when chemotherapy began so I was delighted and relieved to discover a place that was so perfectly tailored to my needs.
I can’t stress how amazing the staff were at Breast Cancer Haven. As a man, I felt really welcomed, understood and listened to, even though so few men experience breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Haven was my place of safety, a place I could go and really be myself. I didn’t have to pretend to anyone that I was OK, when I wasn’t.
A diagnosis of breast cancer and medical treatments can be physically and emotionally gruelling. 55,200 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK each year, which means that our services are vital to helping people by providing the support that medical treatment alone can't. Our supportive services are designed to help address the specific impact of breast cancer, which may include nausea, hair loss, anxiety, loss of confidence, menopausal symptoms and financial issues.
Our personalised breast cancer support is made up of 12 hours of 1-2-1 appointments and includes advice on practical things like money and work, combating stress, exhaustion, nausea and healthy eating. Above all, there will always be someone to talk to. This is all provided free of charge. There is no need for a doctor’s referral and so visitors are welcome to use our services at any point of their breast cancer journey, whether that is at diagnosis, during treatment or in recovery.
