    Situation

The people we support have complex epilepsy, profound physical and learning difficulties. Some were were born with epilepsy and others have developed the condition following an accident or brain trauma. We receive funding for accommodation, food, heating and water only. It costs £6.5 m to run The Meath or £17k per day however we only receive £5.5 m in care packages. Everything we do to develop and encourage the people we support is not statutory and we has to be funded by The Meath.

    Solution

Our Skills Centre (£340,000 annual running cost) provides educational, fitness, physiotherapy to help develop and stimulate the people we support. We want our residents and external users to maintain their existing cognitive and mobility functionality and if possible, improve. We operate a person-centred approach that encourages everyone to achieve their own individual goals through our multi purpose Skills Centre which offers a wide range of acitivites on and off site for 51 weeks a year.
