    Situation

Unemployment is arguably the single most significant obstacle to poverty reduction in South Africa. The largest cohort of job-seekers in South Africa, 65% of the unemployed workforce, are township youth. Township youth are generally low-skilled and have little to no experience of formal employment. Life in a township environment is very different to the world of the urban workplace and quite simply, academic education is not enough to create an understanding of the world of work.

    Solution

Afrika Tikkun has developed & implements a Career Development programme (CDP). The CDP provides youth with ICT skills, career guidance, job readiness training, specialised training, job placement & access to scholarships and bursaries for further learning. In addition to the basic CDP the young people will be trained in both practical & theoretical agricultural skills, business skills, market trends, entrepreneurship & idea development aimed at promoting an urban agripreneur cohort of youth.
