    Situation

Cape Cod is one of the world’s most active locations for dolphin and whale strandings. We have been the first line of defence for marine mammals in distress. Entanglement in fishing gear, ship strikes, and ocean noise are three of the most prominent direct threats to these populations. Indirect threats of climate change and ocean acidification are amplifying these impacts. Marine mammals serve as sentinels of ocean health- and a healthy ocean is essential to life on earth

    Solution

We’ve pioneered field health assessments, diagnostics and treatments to increase the likelihood of survival after release. We’ve also employed innovative tracking technology to monitor the animals after release to evaluate whether or not they survive. Using small, temporary satellite tags, that we safely attach, we are able to track dolphins for an average of two months after rescue. We have also pioneered Mass Stranding Prevention techniques to help prevent mass strandings of dolphins and whales
