Sammy was 16 when she was made homeless on Christmas Day. This winter, together, with our volunteer hosts and your help, we will ensure 100 young people, just like Sammy, have a safe and secure home, festive activities and a hot Christmas meal throughout North & East Yorkshire.

    Situation

Our young people are typically made homeless from a family breakdown, leaving care or abuse. Before coming to SASH many are facing precarious living arrangements, such as sofa-surfing where they can become subject to negative influences from peers with an increased risk of exploitation & the potential to disengage from society. Being made homeless at a young age, often means they lack life skills & resources to live successfully independently & urgently need a safe home & personalised support.

    Solution

Initially, SASH will meet the most immediate need for a young person - a home. By matching young people with a volunteer host, with whom they can live, either for the short or longer term we will provide the time, space & support to begin rebuilding their lives. We also deliver a range of development opportunities such as skill based workshops & festive cultural trips designed to build confidence, gain knowledge & independence enabling them to work towards a sustainable future.
