Our mission is to ensure that by 2030, no one is left in the dark – but we cannot do this alone. 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa are forced to rely on dangerous, polluting and expensive ways to light their homes. Join us in reaching 80,900 people with clean, safe and affordable solar light.

    Situation

Currently, there are 600 million people living in sub-Saharan Africa without access to electricity. This means families are forced to rely on candles, kerosene or batteries to light their homes. These sources of light are expensive, they pollute and they kill. Official projections are that by 2030, there will still be 600 million left in the dark. SolarAid is determined to light the way for a brighter future and our new mission is to ensure that, by 2030 no one will be left in the dark.

    Solution

SolarAid provides access to affordable solar lights in the poorest, rural communities in Malawi and Zambia. We sell solar lights through our social enterprise, SunnyMoney, using a ‘trade-not-aid’ approach to catalyse sustainable solar markets. With a solar light, everything changes: ● £159 saved by a family ● 1,006 extra study hours created ● 1.1 tonnes CO₂ emissions averted ● Half the household experience better health With your help we can reach 80,910 people with this impact.
