We want to embed nature based outdoor education in local schools. We are raising money to support outdoor learning for schools and families in marginalised and urban areas by providing teaching resources and training, and running free activity sessions in local parks during school holidays.

    Situation

The North East has higher health inequalities, poorer educational attainment and is the most under-resourced region in England, worsened by the cost-of-living crisis. Studies show a link between access to greenspace and improved health, wellbeing and resilience, but according to Natural England reports, children here are least likely to spend time with nature or experience the benefits of nature connectivity in their school and home lives.

    Solution

We want to connect people in urban environments to nature so that they receive the health benefits of access to green spaces. We will build partnerships with schools in marginalised areas, to embed a culture of outdoor learning, to empower educators to improve school grounds and deliver outdoor learning sustainably. We will also connect local families with their local greenspace by providing free regular holiday activities, which will develop nature habits that support health and wellbeing.
