    Situation

Menstrual hygiene is fundamental to the dignity and wellbeing of women and girls and an important part of basic hygiene and reproductive health. However, menstruation is too often seen as taboo, with many negative cultural attitudes associated with it. Through the delivery of activities designed to address menstrual health management, we will start to address the wider gender specific issues including child marriage, teenage pregnancy, FGM and sexual exploitation in a safe and sensitive manner.

    Solution

This project will address entrenched gender inequalities through the delivery of a Dignity Training Program across 20 government primary school in the Mtwara district. By training teachers, educating communities, engaging with boys, and bringing key stakeholders together, primary schools will have the skills, knowledge and confidence to educate 3,000 girls about their bodies, empower them to make informed choices, enable them to remain in school.
