On Christmas morning this year, over 500 women and children will wake up in one of Hestia’s domestic abuse refuges. Many of these families have left their home in the face of immense danger, often with just the clothes on their backs. Help us give them a safe and happy Christmas.

    Situation

“He would do anything to control me and keep me submissive. He would threaten to tell social services that I wasn’t taking good care of the baby... It was torture.” Lucy* fled from her abusive husband with her 2-year-old daughter Maria* in July. They found safety in one of Hestia’s domestic abuse refuges, where they have been living for the past 4 months. Women like Lucy leave their homes in the face of immense danger and are left highly traumatised by their experiences. *Names changed

    Solution

Our dedicated Children and Family Workers work tirelessly to bring the joy of Christmas to families in our refuges. Specialists like Lauren, who has been supporting Lucy and Maria, provide therapeutic support as well as ‘happy memory’ making activities, including cooking-classes, homework clubs and mum and baby playgroups. Your donation will help fund our children and family work programme, so that all children arriving at our refuges this winter get the help they need to recover from abuse.
