    Situation

At PAORINHER centre in Northern Uganda, over 500 children living with or affected by HIV rely on the centre's agriculture production to feed themselves and generate income for the school. This source is threatened by droughts; low rainfall in 2022 has already affected harvests as the farm currently does not have an irrigation system. A lack of suitable storage structures and processing equipment means that crop yields are not maximised, and are sold to processors for rock-bottom prices.

    Solution

We will install a solarised irrigation system which will enable the farm to produce greater yields and provide an important source of food and income for children at PAORINER, as well as their families and wider community. We will construct storage structures to enable harvests to be stored, this will help the school have access to food year-round. Processing equipment will enable PAORINHER to carry out value addition activities and increase income both for the centre and community.
