Reduced activity and social isolation during lockdown have led to long-term, detrimental effects on the physical, mental and social wellbeing of our community. To address this, we will host 12 intergenerational Social Clubs focused on wellbeing and connection across Manchester.

    Situation

The past two years have seen a decline is wellbeing due to enforced shielding, self isolation and gym closures. This has had a detrimental effect on both older and younger neighbours in our community, including increasing the risk of severe falls, muscle weakness, lack of confidence, reduction in the creation of “happy hormones” to support mental health and deepened loneliness for those who had experienced it prior to the pandemic.

    Solution

Manchester Cares - We will deliver 12 wellbeing Social Clubs across Manchester. Social Clubs will last up to two hours and take place in-person or online, bringing up to 20 older and 20 younger people across the City together to share time at each club. The clubs will focus on Physical Activity, Dancing and Gardening as they are key ways to promote and improve wellbeing including; Crown Green Bowls, Dance, and Urban gardening.
