This winter please help East London’s children and young people grow their confidence, wellbeing and joy. In our play and youth work we build brave, exciting spaces together with people who live locally; playing, making positive opportunities; dreaming and planning for a fairer future for us all.

    Situation

Toynbee Hall sits between two towering financial districts, our economy and public spaces completely dominated by them. Living in their shadow are communities of children, young people, and new parents who experience the impact of inequality daily. They tell us that Covid, the cost of living increase, and legislation impacting on the rights and status of families who have (in this or previous generations) migrated into this country have combined to make life harder than ever.

    Solution

We run joyful, inclusive and welcoming activities that bring people together: weekly play in our outside spaces for families; parent and baby sessions; practical advice and support on cost of living challenges; support, conversation and an extra pair of arms from fellow community members; alongside our youth led education programme where older teenagers come together to explore their experiences and collectively imagine and create brighter futures.
