Roar's ambition is to become the major provider of choral opportunities for young people within the UK. In 2023, we'll deliver a residential course and professional recording as well as a series of weekend short courses and performances focusing on Mendelssohn's Hymn of Praise.

    Situation

Despite a rich tradition of choral activity in the UK, complex social issues can present real and perceived barriers to participation. Many schools, particularly in the state sector, can only offer basic opportunities to engage in choral music especially within the classical tradition. Young people therefore miss out on the benefits of significant musical training which is a vital part of a rounded education. COVID-19 exacerbated these issues presenting challenges for choirs to meet and perform.

    Solution

The focus of Roar is on major choral-orchestral work and oratorio. This repertoire enables young people to connect with some of the greatest works in classical music even at the earliest stages of their choral training. We are determined to drive forward a major expansion of Roar to create a nationwide programme. Through a breadth of activity, including residential courses, recordings, and shorter weekend projects, Roar aspires to be the leading provider of choral opportunities for UK teenagers.
