Antarctica is one of the most remote and hostile places on Earth, yet nestled in the snow there are a tiny number of historic buildings which hold incredible human and scientific histories. Your support will enable us to complete vital conservation in Antarctica on one of these special sites.

    Situation

Historic buildings in Antarctica are subjected to extreme conditions and they need regular specialist, conservation. Ice, wind and increasing rain batter the wooden walls and windows and make these buildings, which tell the early histories of climate science and discovery, extremely vulnerable. Most urgently this year is the need to repaint our Damoy Base, Historic Site and Monument No. 84 under the International Antarctic Treaty.

    Solution

We will send a team to Antarctica this year to deliver a special conservation field season to Damoy to repair and completely repaint the site so that it is protected and safe for the future. Work will be undertaken to the highest quality by skilled people following international heritage guidelines.
