Help us work with our Doncaster communities, with the largest Deaf population outside of London, by being able to programme more work that is accessible through captioning or BSL interpretation. Support us in our ambition to employ more Deaf artists, and to offer activities for Deaf young people.

    Situation

In Doncaster 21.7% of people identify as having a disability, compared to the national average of 17.9%. Doncaster has the largest Deaf population outside London; Deaf and disabled children face substantial barriers in everyday living, experience high levels of social and financial exclusion and have difficulty in accessing art and opportunities. This high level of need and lack of access can have an impact on the health and well-being of all family members.

    Solution

We hope to provide more opportunity for the Deaf and disabled community in Doncaster to engage with the arts. We will do this through increasing our BSL integration throughout our programme and ensuring our staff and visiting artists undertake relevant training. We also plan to build a partnership with the Deaf Trust, offering opportunities for them to come to CAST, take tours, join a community and gain an insight into careers within the Arts. We’re working with Graeae, a disability arts Organis
