    Situation

Nigeria continues to face the tragic consequences of having one of the highest rates of new HIV infections, with 86,000 people testing positive each year (UNAIDS, 2020). Key drivers of HIV transmission include gender inequality & insufficient education. Children & young people are particularly affected by HIV, with about 40% of new HIV infections occurring among young people. Sadly, Nigeria is the only country in the world where AIDS-related deaths amongst young people are rising (AVERT, 2019).

    Solution

We will train community and church leaders to accelerate progress towards ending the HIV pandemic in Nigeria and to create a more gender equal society. They will equip 9,115 children, young people and community members with the knowledge and skills to prevent HIV transmission and improve emotional and sexual health outcomes. We’ll deliver transformative relationships & sex education that champions gender equality through Children’s & Esteem clubs, and community programs for adults.
