We want to ensure everyone has the best chance of surviving head & neck cancer but there's a widening gap in access to the best treatments. Through direct work and with partners, we support levelling up of areas and communities affected by the growing inequalities in support care and care in the UK.
Treatments for Head and Neck cancer can be brutal, disfiguring and have life-changing impact on appearance, speech, eating, sight and hearing. With little to no awareness within general public of Head and Neck cancer symptoms, there’s also a postcode lottery with diagnosis, best treatment options and full post treatment support. In some areas people are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed late, at Stage 4. This affects people’s chances of survival and is unacceptable.
We'll run awareness campaigns of the signs & symptoms of Head and Neck cancer. Our national outcomes survey will identify health promotion which breaks barriers to early diagnosis and treatment. We'll collaborate with healthcare providers to design new and better interventions that reach communities at the greatest risk. And we'll fund medical research to find more effective, and less invasive treatments so that more people survive and live well after treatment.
