We are fundraising to provide even more support for our users in these troubling financial times, in order to strive for an equal life. In particular we are fundraising to be able to take our users on a larger array of trips and activities, as well as for transport due to our growing members list.

    Situation

In 2019/20, Trust for London found that 35% of families in London that included a disabled person were in poverty. It is expected that since the pandemic, these figures and driving factors have only become more prevalent in families with a disabled member. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) also found in 2021 that the proportion of disabled people (15.1%) aged 16 years and over in England who reported feeling lonely “often or always” was over four times that of non-disabled people (3.6%).

    Solution

Greenwich Mencap runs a range of social activities for adults with a learning disability throughout the year. We aim to reduce isolation and encourage friendships by developing service users' skills whilst having fun. As well as the Riverwood Project woodwork and crafts day centre, where work and social skills are nourished, we aim to provide work experience and a range of activities that seek to bring value and meaning to the lives of our members while helping with future employment options.
