    Situation

C19 and lockdowns have had a huge impact on visually impaired people and their wellbeing. Many had to shield. Social distancing measures were difficult for them to cope with, making it hard to get out; leaving them even more isolated. Access to digital services is often hard for blind and partially sighted people. In recent consultations, our users have told us that social activities are a top priority for them and would aid in increasing their confidence and their social contact.

    Solution

We’ll run a programme of activities to reduce isolation and get visually impaired people out socialising. Activities will include coffee mornings and day trips to places of interest such as Tiptree Jam Museum, which people would struggle to attend without assistance . We’ll support over 130 people and their carers each month. Full day trips and coffee mornings will run once a month across Essex. Coffee mornings will be used to demonstrate a range of aids and gadgets to help with independence
