The Royal Academy of Dance empower people through dance education and enjoyment, and believe that ‘every body’ should have the opportunity to learn to dance. Funds raised will help support our outreach programmes for children and young people in London and our new community project in Wandsworth.

    Situation

The number of children taking part in dance in England has almost halved since 2008/09 from over 51.9% of children aged 11-15 to 28.9% in 19/20 (DCMS). Dance provision in schools has been decreasing in recent years. With 37% of all children in London living in poverty (CPAG), for many, opportunities to participate in dance are not accessible due to cost or lack of provision. This means that children can miss out on developing skills and improving health, wellbeing and confidence.

    Solution

Our mission is to ‘inspire the world the dance’. Dance is for everyone and no matter what age, ability or background our students come from, they will always find a home at the RAD. Through our outreach projects across London and our aim to partner with our local community in Wandsworth to co-curate arts projects, we deliver free or subsidised inclusive dance and movement sessions for children in both mainstream and SEND schools, removing barriers to accessing dance.
