We will create a fund for support workers to use their person-based knowledge to provide essential items for our homeless, refugee and other vulnerable clients. This will help them overcome challenges, improve their wellbeing, life prospects and move towards an independent, happy and healthy life.

    Situation

People can become trapped in services that have funding to cover basic functions of support and safety such as homeless hostels and community services. There are great services providing support but do not have funding to help purchase items that would make the difference to people and help change their lives for the better. Services being able to apply a creative person-centred approach are vital to overcome practical barriers and achieve goals; this fund would help this in a meaningful way.

    Solution

Through individual person-centred plans, we get to know the individual and what would help them meet a goal. We try to source available funding but often this doesn’t fund such items. Using the Innovation Fund, support workers can purchase items that will make a huge difference and help move their lives forward. Examples of items purchased with the fund could be a suit to help with an interview, a bus pass to keep connected to family, a bike to volunteer or a carpet that can make a house a home
