We are raising funds for our award-winning UR4Driving project which teaches people with convictions and young 'at risk' to drive in return for 80 hours of voluntary work. We want to give them the skills they need to increase their chances of securing employment and to avoid re-offending.

    Situation

The UK has the highest prison rates in Western Europe, 60% of whom will re-offend within 12 months of release. People with convictions are excluded from mainstream society by their criminal history which severely damages their employability, social standing and life chances. Having a job is the single biggest factor in reducing re-offending, yet 75% of prisoners are released to unemployment. 47% of prisoners have no qualifications and there is a national shortage of drivers.

    Solution

UR4Driving is an award-winning project which aims to break the cycle of re-offending and long-term unemployment among people with convictions by teaching them to drive in return for 80 hours of voluntary work. UR4Driving gives individuals a skill which can be a gateway to employment, providing a more settled way of life, whilst supporting them to engage with family members – all strengthening attitudes which help prevent re-offending.
