    Situation

Refugee children in Iraq face the impact of long term displacement, loss, trauma, fear, loss of education and hope, which can result in long term mental health issues. The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened vulnerabilities. The economic crisis exacerbates the stress on families, as many struggle to provide for their families, which can result in child protection issues, such as exploitation, child marriage, child labour, abuse and neglect. Children with special needs are particularly vulnerable.

    Solution

Through a safe child friendly space help children and their families overcome traumatising experiences, provide child protection services, support the development and learning of children and facilitate education for children. The project is complementary to the local school programme and is designed as a careful and holistic approach to the needs of children in a protracted emergency situation. We will provide targeted support to those with special needs to access education and specific therapy
