Me, not my disability will help people with learning disabilities to be seen and heard. They are individuals who want to be understood, appreciated and not defined by their disability. Help us support people to live the life they choose and grasp opportunities to have their voices heard.

    Situation

People with a learning disability often find it hard to have control over their lives. Their life choices can be limited by other people’s decisions of what they can and can’t aspire to. Living independently, gaining employment, choosing your own social activities are choices we take for granted. We want them to have the right information and tools to make independent decisions about their ambitions and needs so that we can provide the right care and support to help them on that journey.

    Solution

We want a society where people with learning disabilities are valued and respected as individuals in their local communities. Taking the central role in decisions about their own health and wellbeing. Through four key themes this project will deliver the extra support, information, guidance and activities they need: • Aspirations for everyone – identify their dreams • Understanding choices – make informed decisions • Being Heard – make their views known • Being Seen – raise their own profile
