To fight hunger & poverty in Rwanda we will train 763 farming families in climate-positive agriculture. Vegetable gardens will boost food production & integrated animal management will keep livestock healthy. Land will flourish, child nutrition will improve & household income will increase.

Situation
In rural Rwanda, the climate crisis is making it difficult for smallholder farmers to grow enough nutritious food to eat on their small plots. There is poor access to water, little space to grow vegetables & few eat protein-rich diets. With high levels of poverty & food insecurity they often experience up to 4 hunger months a year, eating an average of 1.5 meals a day. With barely enough to feed themselves, they rarely have surplus to earn the income they need to escape the cycle of poverty.
Solution
763 farmers will be trained in climate-positive, sustainable agriculture, improved animal management & enterprise development to improve nutrition & income. Increased access to water will enhance family health and nutrition. Improved animal management & fodder production will boost dairy yields. Farmers will learn how to store produce & access markets to increase income. Volunteer Peer Farmers will ensure long term sustainability, encouraging & supporting community members to adopt new skills.
