Helping Hands will provide a co-ordinated support network for older and isolated residents of Duffield and surrounds. We aim to assist those without support to achieve what others might consider small, everyday tasks such as using technology, on-line appointments, going out or moving furniture.

    Situation

25% of people in our area are over 60, many without family nearby. Our users report the detrimental effect LA cuts have on their ability to navigate everyday life as they try to remain safe and independent in their own homes. Furthermore, the pandemic increased society's reliance on information technology, but many older people lack the skills and confidence necessary to participate and suffer increased isolation as a result. Such social and digital exclusion increase isolation and loneliness.

    Solution

Helping Hands will empower people to take the initiative, learn new skills and preserve their dignity. Our one-stop shop will provide a trusted safety net for everyday occurrences such as reaching difficult items in the home, whilst also offering the chance to invest in their own futures by learning new IT skills. We will liaise with other bodies, recruit, train, coordinate and monitor personnel, establish and advertise a booking system and build on our small yet established iPad coaching.
