Situation
With the cost of living crisis, millions of families are needing to choose between eating and heating their homes. In April, 1 in 6 households with children experienced food insecurity. This Christmas will be a tough time for many children in London, who even before the crisis experienced high levels of food poverty. As the weather gets colder many families will have even less to spend on food, and hundreds of thousands of children will be unable to eat.
Solution
City Harvest rescues food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributes it to frontline charities who are supporting people across the capital. The money raised from The Big Give Christmas Challenge will provide 400,000 meals and support our 18 Food Rescue Vans to save 168 tonnes of food from waste and deliver it free of charge to our charity partners. Children and families are the most important focus of our work.
