For too long, our growing numbers have been largely ignored as a contributor to our environmental crises despite evidence of the multiplying effect we all have: each of our individual needs for space to live, to grow food, our use of natural resources like water; our carbon footprints. Yes, it's difficult topic. Yes, it is going to be uncomfortable. But it's time to talk about how, if we harness the power of choice and reduce the unmet need for contraception, we can make a better future.
Solution
Population Matters has already started the conversation and we will encourage everyone to join us. It's essential we all talk: about the choice to be childfree or have a smaller family, about the big carbon footprints some of us have that destroy the homes and lives of others, about the women who want an education but are unable to access contraceptives so cannot go to school, about the wildlife disappearing and habitats degrading because of our relentless growth. Until we change, until we act.
