Jacksons Lane throws open its doors on Christmas Day to provide lunch with all the trimmings, gifts, and a full day of entertainment to over 200 elderly and disabled people who would otherwise be spending the day alone. We work to ensure the most vulnerable in our community have a special Christmas.

    Situation

Research shows that in the UK, more than half of old people aged 75+ live alone, and Christmas can feel particularly isolating. The pandemic has had a huge impact on older adults, leaving them at increased risk of loneliness. This is a vital time for communities to gather, connect and support each other. As we have done over the past 45 years, we will provide as many people as possible who would otherwise be alone, the opportunity to spend Christmas with others and be part of our community.

    Solution

Our team, supported by an army of dedicated volunteers, will offer a unique event, celebrating community and connection, for hundreds of older adults across North London on Christmas Day, with food, presents and entertainment. We will offer a combination of our traditional sit-down lunch in our building for 100 people, along with a Christmas meal delivery for a further 200 people. This approach will enable us to meet growing demand, providing support, company and warm food on this emotional day.
