Situation
The problem is lack of space for effective and healthy learning. St Christopher Primary School in Kenya serves a community marked by severe deprivation. In Class One, a group of seventy six children, many of whom are affected by HIV-AIDS, must crowd together to be taught. This pressing lack of space weakens teaching and hinders learning. Additionally efforts in health promotion and disease prevention are defeated by overcrowding.
Solution
Hope for Children will build a new classroom to create the conditions in which classes of thirty five or so children can safely, happily and healthily learn, sitting side-by-side. Ventilation, spacing and room to stay clean and tidy will transform the learning environment and support health promotion and disease prevention. The Kenyan Government has agreed to provide and fund a teacher if we can build this new classroom. This spirit of sustainable partnership underpins our mission.
