We are raising funds to be able to continue to provide living expenses for single refugee women with babies. We aim to provide them with a small stipend each month to enable them to buy food and essentials in a way that allows choice and promotes dignity and autonomy.

    Situation

Many refugees come to Athens having fled political, social or religious persecution, or war from places like Afghanistan, Syria, and parts of Africa. Some are single women who are pregnant or just given birth, and forced to live in squalid camps, squats or increasingly on the streets, sleeping in parks and churches, eating from bins, putting their own lives and their newborn babies' lives in great danger. In July 2021 the government cash assistance ended, meaning many refugees have no support.

    Solution

We provide a home for women with newborn babies, giving them safety and stability at this vulnerable time. Through providing a modest monthly stipend, we enable them to care for themselves, their babies and any other children in a dignified way that promote independence and choice. They are able to buy essentials and food for themselves, can begin to integrate into the local community using local shops and services, and to access sufficient nutritious food to breastfeed if they wish.
