This campaign has now closed

For the last 2 years, young adult prisoners have been kept in solitary confinement, with very little education or support services. This has worsened issues (e.g. mental ill-health) and stripped away hope. We want to extend our Hero’s Journey programme into new prisons, to reach more young people.

    Situation

Months after Covid-19 restrictions lifted for the general population, many prisoners are still spending most of their days in their cell. Most have spent over 90% of their days behind cell doors since the end of March 2020. There continues to be limited access to rehabilitation programmes. As a result, young adult prisoners have fewer possibilities post-release, their mental health has suffered, and many have lost hope. They need support to realise their potential and build a positive future.

    Solution

Our Hero’s Journey programme, currently operating in 3 prisons/YOIs in London and the Southeast helps restore young adult’s hope, and build the skills and mindset needed to build a future that excites them, away from crime. There is real appetite from young prisoners for this work: we have waiting lists in the prison we work. In the coming year, we want to expand the Hero’s Journey to more prisons, including outside of London, so we engage more young adults, helping them make up for lost time.
