This campaign has now closed

Our new women's home opened in June 2022 and houses up to 7 women who live independently yet provide fellowship & support to one another. Rooms are spacious, airy and kept clean by the ladies. They cook their own food in a large kitchen and, in time, we plan to open a small shop on the ground floor.

    Situation

Sahas Ghar fills a gap in our existing provision. Until now, we have either paid rent for our ladies to live entirely independently, or we have offered them a place at our current women's home where everything is done for them (like a nursing home). Many women do not need to have all their food cooked for them but neither can they live on their own. For instance, they must be reminded to take their medicine daily. We want to keep a watchful eye on some without removing all their autonomy.

    Solution

Sahas Ghar home runs on a sheltered housing model and allows the ladies to continue to take responsibility for their day-to-day living but does so in a supportive environment. Someone is always on hand to help out and give advice. The ladies live together but make their own decisions and are responsible for cleaning their rooms, washing their clothes and preparing their own food. They support each other and can alert our staff, who do not live on the premises, if there are problems.
