590 million people across sub-Saharan Africa live without electricity. When the sun goes down the working day ends for millions of people. For millions of others the only option is to ignite kerosene lamps and paraffin candles, which emit toxic fumes into the earth’s atmosphere. But with the flick of a switch, you can change that story. Because every solar light we get into someone's hands in an instant win for people and the planet.
Solution
SolarAid focuses on reaching communities in rural Malawi and Zambia who will benefit the most from solar energy but cannot afford it. Our new Light a Village programme provides homes with solar power to improve lives at the flick of a switch. In schools we set up light libraries so school children can study.
