For 25 years, the Charlie Waller Trust has been supporting young people, and those with responsibility for them, to look after their mental health. We give them the tools to enhance their mental wellbeing and confidence to seek help when they need it. Our work is more vital today than ever before.

    Situation

A major increase in mental health problems among children and young people has led to a huge unmet need for support. This affects not just young people, but also those with a duty of care for them: parents, carers, teachers, employers. Parents, especially, can be desperate to help a struggling child but not know where to turn. Many don’t know how to spot the signs of a mental health problem; some lack confidence to open a conversation about mental health; others worry they’ll make things worse.

    Solution

Early intervention is key to preventing later mental health problems. We give parents, carers, teachers and employers the knowledge, skills and confidence to spot signs of mental ill health and help young people. We deliver training and resources through schools, colleges, universities and workplaces, supporting young people from primary school age to their early working lives. Our work with parents and carers is expanding to create support networks across the UK, using our evidence-based, practical approach.
