Public House will amplify unheard voices, explore Englishness in all its diversity and bring world-class culture to audiences. Your support enables community workshops across the country reflecting on the role of rhetoric in our political culture, culminating in a state-of-the-nation theatre production.

    Situation

Unequal Cultural and Community Engagement: There is widespread incohesion and inequality of access to culture across the country, with some of the lowest numbers in areas of the West Midlands, the North, and London’s Newham (ACE 2020 & 2018). There are additional barriers for those with disabilities, statistically less likely to participate in the arts (DCMS 2015/16). Creative engagement within communities can empower participants, support wellbeing, and help to build and strengthen social ties.

    Solution

We'll run facilitated, accessible community workshops to create a theatre production incorporating the voices of diverse participants from across England. We'll work in 6 locations where we already have established relationships, to better understand their needs. From initial workshops to full scale production, we will support our participants, amplify their voices, provide skills and training, involve them in high-quality culture, and provide career opportunities for under-represented artists.
