Right now, more than 1 in 5 people in the UK are living in poverty. Big Issue vendors & their families are included in this number, facing countless additional pressures & difficulties. As we continue to support vendors to recover and gain stability after the pandemic, we face new challenges. The cost-of-living crisis & soaring energy costs have been extremely hard hitting. This creates an uncertain living situation, making it even more difficult for vendors to work themselves out of poverty.
Solution
The Big Issue provides a ‘hand-up’. To date, helping over 100,000 people facing poverty to earn over £144m. Where situations appear hopeless, we see potential. We believe everyone deserves a chance, recognising each person as a valuable individual, with achievable goals & aspirations. Our programmes change lives. Through one-to-one support we provide guidance, connections and opportunities by addressing underlying, personal needs, removing barriers & giving people the opportunity to progress.
